The Malta Standards Authority (MSA) was set up in 1997 by an Act of Parliament to coordinate standardization and other related activities in Malta. In 2002, the law was reenacted and the name changed to Malta Standards Authority. MSA is an umbrella organization responsible for the Quality Infrastructure of the Maltese island. MSA is full member of CEN, CENELEC, ETSI, EA and corresponding member of IEC, OIML and Euronet.
MSA is empowered to publish voluntary standards. In addition, under the Product Safety Act and Food Safety Act, the Authority - on advice of the Ministers responsible for Industry and Health - publishes obligatory minimum quality standards.
